We manage all of our operations in a manner that protects the health and safety of employees, contractors, the public and the environment while complying with the applicable laws, regulations, industry standards and stakeholder expectations. Actions speak louder than words, which is why we continue to put in place measures that will improve our record in this area.

• We have preventative environment, health and safety (EH&S) programs that identify potential hazards before they become incidents.
• We engage employees and contractors in the design of continuous EH&S continuous improvement programs.
• We work with regulators, industry peers and other stakeholders to build programs that set best practices for our industry.

Our Environmental Partnerships

Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation (AIWC)

Since 2015, Inter Pipeline has supported the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation (AIWC), a registered charity and non-profit organization dedicated to rehabilitating injured, orphaned and oiled wildlife. AIWC is open 365 days a year and admits more than 1,600 wild animals each year from across Alberta. Its facilities include an accredited animal hospital with a surgical suite, lab, x-ray room, various rehabilitation rooms and cages and pre-release structures for birds, waterfowl, small mammals and ungulates.

In addition to the hundreds of volunteer hours at the facility by Inter Pipeline employees, our support has funded an aquatic bird hospital, an aquatic bird and aquatic mammal centre for pre-release enclosures and a mobile wildlife care unit. Through the completion of these projects, AIWC is now the leader for proper care and treatment for aquatic mammals and birds in Alberta. To date, over 300 mammals and birds have been directly supported by our projects and their successful release back into the wild has increased.

Inter Pipeline is a proud member of the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC). We believe plastic belongs in the economy, not the environment. When plastic products complete their usefulness, they don’t belong in landfills and should be considered a valuable resource that should be recycled and reused. We have committed to the Responsible Care Ethic and Principles for Sustainability and the Responsible Care Codes, covering all aspects of our Heartland business and product lifecycle. This creates safer and more sustainable products and processes – improving the environmental and safety performance of CIAC members.
