June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the enduring impact these communities have had in shaping Canada, both in the past and today.
Not just this month, but all year long, Inter Pipeline is dedicated to fostering a deeper connection to and appreciation of the Indigenous peoples and cultures across our operating areas in Alberta and Saskatchewan. This month provides an important reminder to be intentional about learning, reflecting and building understanding through meaningful action. Alongside being the right thing to do, building strong relationships with Indigenous communities, supported through this education and awareness, contributes to a stronger, more inclusive future for our organization.
Inter Pipeline’s #OneThing Campaign
As part of this commitment, IPL is encouraging employees to take part in a campaign we call #OneThing which encourages employees to deepen their understanding of Indigenous cultures and histories through one meaningful action. Whether that’s reading a book by an Indigenous author, attending a community event, or participating in learning opportunities, there is something everyone can do. The campaign is designed to make learning accessible, personal, and ongoing, reinforcing the idea that greater awareness is built through small, intentional steps. While this initiative is focused internally with our employees, it reflects a broader mindset: meaningful progress begins with a willingness to learn. As we mark National Indigenous History Month, we invite others to consider — what is one thing you can do to expand your own understanding?
Our relationship with Indigenous communities extends far beyond the month of June. At Inter Pipeline, we recognize that meaningful partnerships are built over time through ongoing learning, listening, and respect. We are committed to deepening our understanding, strengthening relationships, and working together in ways that honor Indigenous perspectives and experiences. Respect is at the core of who we are, and we strive to reflect this in our words, actions and in how we show up every day as partners and neighbors.Joanne Martineau, Manager, Indigenous Relations.
