The following individuals represent the senior management team of Inter Pipeline.

Paul Hawksworth President & Chief Executive Officer
Paul Hawksworth President & Chief Executive Officer

Before transitioning to Inter Pipeline President and Chief Executive Officer in November 2023, Mr. Hawksworth served as the Company’s Chief Financial Officer between 2021 and 2023. Prior to that, Mr. Hawksworth played an instrumental role in Brookfield Infrastructure’s 2021 acquisition and privatization of Inter Pipeline as a Senior Vice President with Brookfield Infrastructure. While at Brookfield Infrastructure, he was responsible for evaluating investment opportunities across the midstream sector. Prior to joining Brookfield in 2013, he held mergers and acquisitions advisory roles with leading investment banks and accounting firms focused on upstream joint ventures, midstream acquisitions and downstream refining and marketing assets. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, a Chartered Business Valuator and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia.

Prior to joining Inter Pipeline as Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Wright was a Vice President with Brookfield Infrastructure responsible for capital allocation decisions and overseeing finance activities for several portfolio companies in the midstream energy sector. Mr. Wright has held several roles with Brookfield and has been actively involved in a number of key transactions including Inter Pipeline. Prior to joining Brookfield in 2016, he was in the assurance and advisory group at Collins Barrow Chartered Accountants. Mr. Wright holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.

Todd Karran Chief Executive Officer Petrochemicals

Todd Karran’s 35 years of experience in pipeline, chemical and plastics manufacturing, and international business helped him support significant profitable growth for NOVA Chemicals where he was the President and Chief Executive Officer from 2015 to 2020 and Chief Financial Officer from 2009 to 2016. During his tenure at NOVA, multiple growth projects were completed or initiated including the expansion of NOVA’s Corunna cracker in Ontario, building a second Advanced SCLAIRTECH technology facility in Ontario, and constructing a new polyethylene plant in Joffre, Alberta. Mr. Karran holds CPA and CMA professional accounting designations in Alberta and graduated with an MBA from the Katz School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He has also served on a number of private, public and not-for-profit boards of directors. 

Kyle DeGruchy Senior Vice President, Transportation
Kyle DeGruchy Senior Vice President, Transportation

Kyle DeGruchy is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of Inter Pipeline’s Transportation Infrastructure business. This includes oversight of the Commercial Development, Operations, Logistics and Project Development teams. Prior to joining Inter Pipeline, Mr. DeGruchy held various positions of increasing responsibility over 13 years at Gibson Energy, including Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer; where he led the Business Development, Infrastructure, Commodities Marketing and Trading, and growth initiatives for the company. His extensive knowledge of the commodities and midstream infrastructure landscape across North America has helped drive growth and market solutions for customers. Mr. DeGruchy holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Victoria.

Nipa Chakravarti Senior Vice President, Marketing
Nipa Chakravarti Senior Vice President, Marketing

Nipa Chakravarti joined Inter Pipeline Ltd as General Manager of Information Technology in 2018. In November 2020, she was appointed Vice President of Marketing and is responsible for executing on asset optimization opportunities, transportation and logistics and the management of commodity exposures. Prior to joining Inter Pipeline, she served as the Chief Transformation Officer for TransAlta Corporation, served as Vice President of Information Technology for five years, held the position of Vice President of Customer Service at FortisAlberta and worked as a Senior Manager, Consulting at KPMG. Ms. Chakravarti is known for innovating and implementing Lean methodologies to simplify operation and has successfully led operations, systems, procurement and finance teams. Ms. Chakravarti holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University and is a CPA, CA. and currently sits on the Board of the Prostate Cancer Centre.

Cory W. Neufeld Senior Vice President, NGL
Cory W. Neufeld Senior Vice President, NGL

Cory W. Neufeld oversees the physical operations, commercial management and development of the Facilities Infrastructure business segment at Inter Pipeline. Mr. Neufeld joined Koch Pipelines Canada LP (Inter Pipelines’ predecessor) in 1996 and has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of operations, engineering and business development. Prior to his recent appointment, Mr. Neufeld was Vice President, NGL Commercial as of April 2018 and held the position of Vice President, Oil Sands Pipeline Development from June 2014. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996, holds a professional engineering designation and is a member of APEGA and APEGS.

Kristen Simpson Senior Vice President and Chief Legal, People & Sustainability Officer

Kristen Simpson was appointed to the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Legal, People & Sustainability Officer on March 1, 2024 after serving the company most recently as Vice President, Legal & Compliance. Ms. Simpson is broadly responsible for legal oversight, human resources, corporate governance, ethics & compliance, corporate sustainability strategy, Indigenous relations and community investment, government affairs, corporate communications, internal audit, corporate health & safety, incident management, regulatory compliance, enterprise content management, and office & facilities services. Prior to joining Inter Pipeline in 2010, Ms. Simpson worked in the Energy group at a large Calgary law firm. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary and is a member of the Law Society of Alberta.

Brian Baker Chair of the Board
Brian Baker Chair of the Board

Brian Baker is an Operating Partner for Brookfield’s Infrastructure Group. In this role, he works with Brookfield’s midstream portfolio companies to set strategic direction, manage risk as well as support growth initiatives. Since joining Brookfield in 2007, Mr. Baker has held a number of senior roles across Brookfield’s Infrastructure Group including heading investment activities in Europe and North America for over a decade. Mr. Baker joined Inter Pipeline in October 2021 as the Company’s President & Chief Executive Officer before assuming the role of Board Chair in November 2023. Prior to joining Brookfield in 2007, Mr. Baker was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for several oil and gas production companies in Western Canada. He was previously a Partner at Collins Barrow Chartered Accountants, where he focused on advisory work in the oil and gas sector. Mr. Baker holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.

Deborah Close retired from the position of President of the Production Services division of Tervita Corporation in November 2015, a position she had held since 2010. Tervita Production Services delivers engineering and field-based services to the oil and gas industry. From 2002 to 2010, Ms. Close was the Executive Vice President of DO2 Technologies Inc. (now Enverus), a software company providing electronic invoicing to the oil and gas industry. Prior to DO2, Ms. Close served in a number of Regional Vice President roles in Halliburton Corporation’s software division, Landmark Graphics. During Ms. Close’s 12 years at Halliburton Corporation, she worked in Canada, the US and Europe. Ms. Close currently serves on the board of directors of Descartes Systems Group and Ember Resources Inc. Ms. Close holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and Rotman School of Management.

Shelley Brown has more than 25 years of board experience serving on not-for-profit, association and for-profit corporate boards, including Deloitte Canada, the Accounting Standards Board Oversight Council and the University of Saskatchewan Board of Governors. She brings expertise in strategic planning, good governance, finance and risk management. During her distinguished 40-year career in accounting, Ms. Brown was a partner in two of the world’s largest professional services firms. As chair of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, she played a key role in uniting Canada’s accounting profession, culminating in the creation of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada. Ms. Brown currently serves on the board and audit committee of Stantec Inc. Ms. Brown holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan and is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario. In 2018, she was invited into the Order of Canada for her contribution to the community and her profession.

Peter Cella
Peter Cella

From 2011 until his retirement in 2017, Peter Cella was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP, where he championed the approval and construction of CPChem’s $6 billion petrochemicals project on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Previously, Mr. Cella served in a variety of executive posts at BASF Corporation, INEOS Nitriles, part of the INEOS Group, and BP. He began his career at Amoco Corporation in 1981. While Mr. Cella led CPChem, he chaired the Board of Directors of the American Chemistry Council and served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas. Mr. Cella serves as a non-executive director for Inter Pipeline and Frontdoor (NASDAQ). For Frontdoor, Mr. Cella serves on the compensation and audit committees. Born in the Chicago, Illinois, area, he attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1979 and earning a master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University in 1981.

Glenn Hamilton
Glenn Hamilton

Glenn Hamilton served as Corporate Advisor of Bonavista Energy Corporation (formerly, Bonavista Energy Trust) from May 2015 until July 2016. Prior thereto, Mr. Hamilton served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Bonavista Energy Corporation from June 1, 2008 until May 8, 2015 and prior thereto served as its Vice President of Finance. Mr. Hamilton served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of NuVista Energy Ltd. from July 2003 until May 2006 and served as its Corporate Secretary from July 2003 to June 2008. Prior to Bonavista’s reorganization in July 2003, he spent over five years as Vice President, Finance of Bonavista Petroleum Ltd. and played a key role in the Company’s successful refinancing and restructuring from a junior company to $1.2 billion market capitalization at the time of reorganization. Mr. Hamilton has over 35 years of experience in accounting and finance in the oil and gas industry.  Mr. Hamilton has served on the boards of directors of both public and private energy companies.  He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Ember Resources Inc. and Islander Oil and Gas Inc.   He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University and is a Chartered Accountant and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Hugh Sutcliffe Chair of the Operations Committee

Hugh Sutcliffe has over 30 years of experience in senior corporate leadership roles, with a particular focus on restructuring, operational performance and global marketing. Mr. Sutcliffe joined Brookfield in 2005 and has led a variety of enterprises across infrastructure, private equity and real estate. He retired from his position as Managing Partner in 2019 and continued as a director of International Transportation Inc., until the sale of Brookfield’s equity interest in 2022. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of British Columbia and is a Professional Engineer (Non-Practicing).
