People and Diversity

Diversity is a fact, inclusion is a choice. We’re on a journey to further define what diversity and inclusion means at Inter Pipeline and foster respect and inclusion at all levels of the organization.

Our focus is to build and maintain a psychologically safe workplace for everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, family status, religion or any other dimension of diversity.

We continue to embed and enhance inclusive practices in our approach to fostering an outstanding employee experience including variable work schedules and flex-options, parental leave and other like benefits to support our diverse needs.

We invite you to be a part of a company that values your unique experiences and the perspective you bring to your work. View current work opportunities at Inter Pipeline to learn more.

Overview

Promoting Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in our Workforce

We are encouraging a culture where everyone can be powerful allies for each other at work and building a space for issues and equality to be discussed without judgement. At the end of 2020, we established a mandatory unconscious bias training program that all employees will complete by the end of 2021.

To increase transparency, we will be conducting a demographic assessment of our workforce in 2021 and we plan to set aspirational targets to increase diversity in the workforce in the future.

Council for Diversity & Inclusion

In 2020, we established a Council for Diversity & Inclusion composed of employees from across various business units. They plan and execute on activities and educational opportunities to help advance the dialogue on diversity and inclusion in the workplace and find ways to celebrate our differences and unique perspectives.

The high-level objectives of the Council are to:

  • Build Understanding
  • Build Awareness and Educate
  • Build Opportunity

Inter Pipeline’s Women’s Network

Inter Pipeline Women’s Network engages its workforce with a healthy mix of support, motivation, learning and social connection.

The objectives of the workforce are to:

  • Foster a positive working environment for all employees that values and encourages gender diversity
  • Promote skills to build confidence and leadership competencies of women in our workplace
  • Encourage a culture where women can be supporters of each other at work

Meet our People

I am Inter Pipeline

We are a successful business because of the diverse individuals who come to work every day. Our people make Inter Pipeline a special place to be, but who they are goes way beyond what they do at work.

Inter Pipeliners are campers, singers, mountain bikers, cooks, pet lovers and more. Who we are away from work plays a significant role in the makeup of who we are as a company. Inter Pipeline is as proud of its diverse employee base as our employees are of being a part of Inter Pipeline. Learn about the off the clock passions that fuel our employees – from the field to our head office – through our I am Inter Pipeline video series.

Commitments and Partnerships

Women Building Futures

Empowering women to pursue careers in industrial trades is the objective of a three-year partnership between Inter Pipeline Ltd. and Women Building Futures (WBF). Inter Pipeline is investing $580,000 to support WBF in raising awareness and providing pre-apprenticeship training to women in Alberta’s Heartland area. This training is offered through WBF’s Journeywoman Start program, a 17-week classroom and hands-on pre-apprenticeship training program that introduces students to six different industrial trades. Learn more about our Women Building Futures commitment by visiting our Community Sponsorships page.

BlackNorth Initiative

We have taken a public stance on our journey towards inclusion with Inter Pipeline’s CEO reinforcing our commitment to meaningful and enduring change by being a signatory to the BlackNorth initiative, which was formed in response to the recent spotlight on injustices experienced in society by Black and Indigenous communities.

Indigenous Relations

Inter Pipeline’s Indigenous Policy confirms our respect for the cultural diversity of Indigenous Peoples and recognizes the traditional territories and unique legal rights Indigenous People hold in Canada. The policy also outlines our commitment to building mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities including proper consultation and new business development opportunities.
